A petition has been posted on the Ukrainian President's website, asking for the Verkhovna Rada to expedite its consideration of the draft law on the nationalization of the ATB retail chain. The reason cited is suspicions that the chain is financing militants in Donbas.
The petition's author demands that the bill be declared urgent. According to him, ATB operates in the occupied territories as the "First Republican Supermarket." Furthermore, there are reports of ATB collaborating with Viktor Yanukovych's government, and Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev is named as a co-owner of the chain.
According to the petition's author, the chain has opened more than 40 new stores this year, bringing its total number to over 700. The petition's author believes nationalization will allow for the creation of a nationwide network of affordable stores.
It should be noted that the aforementioned Malofeev, according to media reports, actively supports militants in the DPR and LPR, including financially.
