Ukrainian cyber police, together with antivirus companies ESET, Cys Centrum, and CERT-Bund, have discovered a server in Ukraine that controls a large botnet—a network of infected PCs and network devices. This was reported by the press service of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
The botnet consisted of 4 company servers in 63 countries. These servers were used to distribute spam and ran the Mumblehard malware. In Ukraine alone, 33 servers were infected. The command and control server is currently offline.
It turns out that, according to media reports, two of the ten largest botnets are controlled from Ukraine: Canadian Pharmacy and Yambo Financials. Thousands of new machines are infected every week, and they are controlled through hosting services that are difficult to detect.
