Finbalance PrivatBank regularly draws public attention to its less-than-transparent asset management practices: in particular, as of January 1, 2016, approximately UAH 30 billion was concentrated in derivative financial assets (representing 11,6% of the financial institution's total assets). As of January 1, 2015, this figure was significantly lower, amounting to UAH 19,98 billion, or 9,4% of total assets.
PrivatBank's services assure that these fund transfers are created solely to protect funds from inflation and potential depreciation of the national currency, and have nothing to do with shady schemes. At the same time, Mikhail Demkov, an analyst at the ICU investment group, asserts that the bank has been using this practice since at least 2012, and, in his opinion, even the presence of foreign currency loans on the balance sheet does not pose any serious problem for the bank's operations.
