Almost 80% of Ukraine's population believes that the Ukrainian president and government are enabling the enrichment of oligarchs and officials. These are the findings of a sociological study conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from May 13-18, 2016, and presented in Kyiv on Thursday, Kapital reports, citing Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the survey results, 78,5% of respondents believe that the main function performed by the president and government today is to provide conditions for the enrichment of oligarchs and officials.
Only 3,9% believe that the president and the government protect the interests of ordinary citizens, 8,4% believe that the head of state and the government stand in defense of national interests, and 9,1% did not select any of the answer options or were undecided.
The KIIS survey, commissioned by a client, was conducted from May 13 to 18. It focused on public opinion regarding the president's recent actions, the appointment of Ukraine's Prosecutor General, the situation surrounding the "offshore scandal," and the current leadership in the rankings. A total of 2039 respondents residing in 110 settlements across all regions of Ukraine (except Crimea) were interviewed through personal interviews. A four-stage random sampling system with quota selection at the final stage was used, ensuring a representative sample of the Ukrainian population over 18 years of age. In the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts, the survey was conducted only in territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.
The statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0,95 and a design effect of 1,5) does not exceed: 3,3% for indicators close to 50%, 2,8% for indicators close to 25%, 2,0% for indicators close to 10%, 1,4% for indicators close to 5%.
