Today, February 3rd Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius resigned..
The reasons for his resignation became known to journalists. Abromavicius accused Ihor Kononenko, one of the leaders of the BPP, of corruption and the MP's desire to take over the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
As Abromavicius noted, Kononenko lobbied for the appointment of his people to all key sectors managed by the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
In particular, Abromavicius stated, Kononenko pushed his man into the position of head of Ukrhimtransammiak. The BPP MP also appointed a trusted person to Ukrvneshinform.
"The culmination of this personnel chaos was the appointment of Kononenko's man as my deputy, who will be responsible for Naftogaz and other state-owned enterprises," Minister Abromavicius noted at a briefing on Wednesday, February 3.
As the Lithuanian with a Ukrainian passport noted, Kononenko's man arrived with a package of documents and informed him that he would now be his first deputy. After that, according to the minister, he received a call from the Presidential Administration ordering him to retain this man.
This is precisely why Abromavicius resigned and stated that he did not want to be a participant in “this carve-up.”
In turn, Kononenko responded to the Lithuanian's accusations and declared that he was "a loser who is trying to shift the blame for his failures in the ministry's work onto the BPP deputies."
The deputy head of the BPP faction also announced that he would not sue Abromavicius for his statements and accusations of corruption.
