The Ukrainian government has offered the position of First Deputy Minister of Economy Aivaras Abromavicius to Oleksandr Borovik, according to RBC-Ukraine, citing a post on Oleksandr Borovik's Facebook page.
According to Borovik, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko granted him Ukrainian citizenship, and the Cabinet of Ministers offered him the position of First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
Borovik writes:
"The Ministry is undergoing extraordinary changes. It's like a large volunteer startup renting office space in an old Soviet building. I'm taking up a new position and will be responsible for five departments: Economic Strategy, Investment Climate, Business Deregulation, International Donor Programs, and the Digital Economy. We're preparing reforms and restructuring. Last month, we laid off a lot of people, and now we're working to reduce the list of regulatory functions traditionally performed by our ministry. Furthermore, I'm involved in the tax reform effort led by the Ministry of Finance and am the contact person for the international working group preparing the International Conference on Reform Support in Ukraine (the "donor conference"), which will take place in April. We have a lot of work ahead of us."
Media reports previously indicated that former German citizen and Lviv native Oleksandr Borovik would become Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade. Borovik currently serves as General Counsel for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) in the London office of the American company Akamai Technologies.
As a reminder, Ukraine's Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Aivaras Abromavicius, announced that he would appoint three of his deputies.
