The former president's son, Oleksandr Yanukovych, and his business partner and former Party of Regions MP Ihor Gumenyuk have put the energy generating company Donbassenergo up for sale. This was reported by LigaBusiness , citing its own sources within the company.
Donbasenergo was the last Ukrainian energy generating company to be privatized during Viktor Yanukovych's presidency. In the summer of 2013, the State Property Fund sold 60,8% of Donbasenergo's shares to Energoinvest Holding for UAH 718,920 million. Energoinvest Holding was founded by Ihor Gumenyuk, and its shareholders include Oleksandr Yanukovych. According to Pavlo Zhebrivskyi, head of the Donetsk Regional Military-Civil Administration, Yanukovych Jr. owns 34% of Energoinvest Holding's shares.
As a reminder, the energy generating company Donbassenergo operates two thermal power plants: Slavyanska and Starobeshevska. These thermal power plants are entirely dependent on anthracite coal mined in territories not controlled by Ukraine.
The head of a major Ukrainian energy company confirmed that Oleksandr Yanukovych and Ihor Gumenyuk are seeking buyers for Donbassenergo. Gumenyuk, for his part, declined to comment to the media on the search for new investors.
