Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has launched a reform of the law enforcement training system, entrusting the task to 77-year-old Vasyl Durdynets, his advisor, who previously also advised former Interior Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko, who is currently hiding from justice in the Russian Federation.
Thus, on December 23, the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that a working meeting on reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs' education system was held at the ministry, chaired by Arsen Avakov, writes Prestupnosti.net.
— The meeting was attended by First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Zguladze-Gluksmann, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Chief of Staff Serhiy Chebotar , as well as the head of the working group on reforming the system of training specialists for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, General of the Internal Service of Ukraine Vasyl Durdynets, and other members of the working group, the statement said.
Little is said about the meeting itself – only general statements about the discussion of the working group's work on reforming the system of training specialists for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the definition of development prospects, the role and place of departmental education in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the outline of ways to substantially restructure it.
It should be noted that Vasily Durdynets, who headed the working group, was born in 1937. He worked in the Komsomol and party bodies of the CPSU for 20 years of his life, and from 1978 to 1991 he was deputy and first deputy minister of internal affairs of Ukraine.
During Leonid Kuchma's presidency, he served as Deputy Prime Minister for State Security and Emergencies, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, and even served for almost a month as Acting Prime Minister of Ukraine in 1997. That same year, he was promoted to General of the Internal Service of Ukraine. In 2003, Durdynets retired from politics but remained in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, where he served as an advisor to Vitaliy Zakharchenko, a suspect in the shootings on Independence Square in Kyiv that winter.
As it turns out, Arsen Avakov decided that Durdinets would be very useful as an advisor. Moreover, for some reason, Avakov decided to appoint him as the head of reform of the police education system.
It should also be noted that the working group also included Sergei Chebotar, who, as previously reported, was nicknamed "the cashier" within the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to Mykola Tomenko, an adviser to the President of Ukraine, he, as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs for Personnel Policy, is involved in the sale of positions and the protection of illegal businesses.
