Interior Minister Arsen Avakov awarded Tigran Avakyan a personalized firearm, but the law enforcement agency's press service is concealing the award, according to the publication "Prestupnosti.NET."
An interesting fact is that, according to paragraph 10 of Article 9 of the Statute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has the right to award registered firearms for conscientious service in law enforcement, as well as special merits in maintaining order and combating crime.
Avakyan has served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs since August 20, 2015. Prior to this appointment, he had no connection with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Avakyan was awarded a weapon in 2014, as announced on the Ministry of Internal Affairs' official website.
The resource "Prestupnosti.NET" sent a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine asking for a copy of the order awarding Avakyan. The journalist never received a response, and the post about Avakyan's award immediately disappeared from the Ministry of Internal Affairs website.
The journalist noted that this award to a person close to Avakov appears particularly cynical given that no other ATO participant has yet received such a personalized award from Minister Avakov.
Tigran Avakyan is known to be Arsen Avakov's deputy for European integration. Avakyan previously served as vice president of Basis Bank, which is controlled by Avakov's wife.
