On July 20, the NBU declared Kapital Bank insolvent. According to the regulator, in January of this year, due to poor asset quality and a liquidity risk, the financial institution was classified as distressed. The bank was then given six months to improve its financial position. However, the bank's shareholders failed to do so.
The NBU press service clarified that the impossibility of improving the bank's financial situation was due to the fact that part of the bank's operational capacity and the vast majority of its assets remained in the temporarily occupied territory of eastern Ukraine. Therefore, on Monday, July 20, the financial institution was transferred to the management of the Deposit Guarantee Fund.
Kapital Bank is known to have become the 21st Ukrainian bank to have its license revoked by the NBU this year. Kapital Bank's main owners are Violetta Epel, Tatyana Polyakova, and Ruslan Shcherban, son of the murdered Yevhen Shcherban.
