Yuriy Boyko, head of the Opposition Bloc faction in the 8th Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, accused People's Front MP Ihor Lapin of combining his parliamentary mandate with his legal work, thereby violating the Constitution of Ukraine.
Yuriy Boyko contacted Ruslan Kniazevych, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy, and reported that Lapin allegedly combines his mandate with his legal practice. However, the Unified Register of Lawyers indicates that Lapin's right to practice law was suspended on November 15, 2014, immediately after the parliamentary elections.
But as Ukrainska Pravda reports, the Opposition Bloc leader's accusations are not motivated by a desire to force Lapin to adhere to the Ukrainian Constitution (Article 78 of the Constitution of Ukraine). Boyko is irritated by Ihor Lapin's increased interest in Karpatygaz, a company that, although of Swedish origin, is controlled by Boyko and Firtash.
Igor Lapin, in a commentary for Ukrainska Pravda, confirmed that he is investigating Ukrgazvydobuvannya and is also interested in Karpatygaz.
Karpatygaz is a major gas producer and is owned by the Swedish company Misen Enterprises (a subsidiary of Misen Energy). Misen Energy is a publicly traded Swedish company, but despite this, its ultimate beneficiaries are unknown; almost 80% of the company is owned by Cypriot offshore companies. However, as reported in several journalistic investigations, the ultimate beneficiaries of Karpatygaz are Dmytro Firtash and Yuriy Boyko.
