Former Deputy Prosecutor of the Kyiv region Oleksandr Korniets sent a letter to President Petro Poroshenko requesting his intervention in his case.
In the letter, he asked Poroshenko to convene for a third time the leadership of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, and also asked that Poroshenko personally assess the level of evidence in the case.
Korniets himself called the evidence against him "paltry." Meanwhile, lawyer Viktor Petrunenko presented the defense's case, claiming the value of the 102 diamonds was only $701.
"The largest diamond is 0,83 carats, the smallest is 0,003. Are these stones? They're just dust," the lawyer said.
As a reminder, on July 6, officers from the Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained Korniyets on suspicion of accepting a bribe of 3 million hryvnias. He was taken into custody but released on 3,2 million hryvnias bail. Meanwhile, the Kharkiv Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (NIFES) determined that the value of the diamonds seized during the search was nearly 540 hryvnias.
