Borrowers who picketed the National Bank of Ukraine today promised to cripple bailiffs and burn down banks, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Mostly people gathered here who had loans tied to the dollar exchange rate. After the record depreciation of the hryvnia, many of them were simply unable to fulfill their obligations to banks, which in response initiated the alienation of collateral.

“We won’t pay - we have nothing to live for!” the picketers chanted, demanding that an official representative of the bank come to them to present the petition. But the central entrance to the country’s main financial institution was closed even to NBU employees, who, due to force majeure, had to enter from the yard.

“5.05 or the banks will burn,” the protesters threatened, demanding the return of the old exchange rate of the hryvnia to the dollar.

“You have very little time,” Alexander Severin, coordinator of borrowers in Dnepropetrovsk, warned the bankers in his speech. – People’s patience is not rubber. We have already learned to defend ourselves both legally and physically. Therefore, neither bailiffs nor lawyers bought by banks will help you - there are too many of us.”

A more radical plan of action was proposed by the coordinator of Rivne borrowers, Evgeniy Zhukov.

“Employees of the National Bank, you are a terrible concrete thief,” he said. - Nobody will negotiate with you. When you send the executive service to the next apartments that you want to squeeze out, together with the executive service they will specifically cripple you. There are no more options."

Such a radical algorithm for the borrowers’ further actions drew strong approval from the protesters.

"I sincerely hope that the people of Ukraine will soon understand that you're robbing not only foreign currency borrowers, but all Ukrainian citizens," Zhukov continued. "You've simply deliberately and purposefully devalued the hryvnia. And Mr. Kubiv (the former head of the National Bank, one of the Maidan commandants, appointed head of the NBU by the new government; it was under his leadership that the hryvnia's rapid devaluation began – ed.) wants to hide behind number 59 on the Poroshenko Bloc list."

In addition, the picketers reminded President Poroshenko of the statement he made during the election campaign about the need to recalculate loans tied to the exchange rate at the National Bank rate at the time the agreement was concluded.

Oh, how sly these foreign currency borrowers are—they wanted a low-interest loan, but ended up in deep trouble. You'll have to deal with it yourself now, but you need to consider the risks beforehand and always remember which country you live in.
