Korban's "black" accounting can be used in the takeover of Amstor - Chumak

The "black" accounting of Gennady Korban, partially published by GPU investigators, is most likely genuine.

This opinion was expressed by the People's Deputy of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption, Viktor Chumak.

"Should we trust those documents, Gennady Korban's so-called 'black ledger'? At the very least, they should always be kept in mind, because it's no secret that such 'black' ledger systems exist in most of the political forces represented here. This isn't some kind of surprise to society. Everyone has long known that most politicians here in parliament are dependent on party coffers, receiving their salaries from party coffers," Chumak stated. "Why did they make it public? Because it's very difficult to prove procedurally; it's political corruption. That's why the prosecutor's office made it public, basically, because it can't be used as evidence in a criminal case. But evidence of political corruption can be used."

As a reminder, in late December 2015, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine published records it found during searches of Korban's home. The Prosecutor General's Office claims the records indicate illegal accounting practices and the hostile takeover of several enterprises.

In particular, there are records there recording the amounts of money received and payments regarding the corporate raid on the Amstor supermarket chain by Smart Holding (owned by the oligarch and Opposition Bloc deputy Vadim Novinsky), claims well-known blogger Anton Shvets.

According to the documents, on January 15, 2015, $2 million was transferred to Korban's account from Mikoltesia (with "Smart" written in parentheses). On April 30, 2015, Korban received another $1 million from the same company. The documents also contain notes on Korban's spending on the Amstor project—a total of over $700,000, Shvets notes.

In turn, Chumak notes that “these documents can become procedural documents if there is an investigation, if there is production.”

As a reminder, on December 31, 2014, armed men stormed Amstor supermarkets across Ukraine, claiming to be representatives of the new management—Smart-Holding (owned by Vadim Novinsky, a Russian oligarch with a Ukrainian passport). This was preceded by a legal attack: using forged documents and with the assistance of state registration service officials, Amstor's founders were illegally changed. Bankruptcy proceedings have now been initiated against most of the Amstor group's businesses, and some store premises have been leased long-term to the Silpo chain.
