At a Kyiv City Council meeting, 65 deputies voted to divide the land on which the Kyiv City Hall building is located and transfer one of its parts to Rinat Akhmetov's TSUM LLC, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
It is known that at the meeting, the deputies, by their majority, divided the land plot, which belongs to the Kyiv city hall, into two parts and leased a part of it, 0,0068 hectares in area, to TSUM LLC.
Members of Batkivshchyna and Svoboda voted against this Kyiv City Council decision. As Batkivshchyna MP Volodymyr Bondarenko stated, "Construction that was never there has encroached into the courtyard of our building, practically onto the roadway. This is simply a seizure of land intended for the maintenance of our building! You can't humiliate yourself like that!" His colleague, Ruslan Andreyko from Svoboda, stated that his faction stands by its principled position and does not want to allocate land in central Kyiv to oligarchs who support separatists in the Donbas.
As a reminder, at the end of 2014, the Kyiv City Council considered leasing two plots of land, 68 square meters and 188 square meters, in central Kyiv to TSUM LLC. However, the council rejected Akhmetov's company's request.
A Ukrainian oligarch bought Kyiv's TSUM in 2011 and later created TSUM LLC, which oversees the department store.
