The case of "overseer" Yaroshenko is a shame for Vitali Klitschko and Vitali Yarema, - journalist

The case of extortion and fraud against Georgy Yaroshenko has completely died down in the Prosecutor General's Office.

The editor-in-chief of the Censor wrote about this on his Facebook page. NO Yuri Butusov.

"The case of 'overseer' Yaroshenko is a disgrace to Vitali Klitschko and Vitaliy Yarema, a triumph for Artur Palatny, a mockery of the orders of the president and the head of the SBU."

It's unpleasant to write about this disgusting story, but I'll briefly state the facts:

1. The extortion and fraud case against Georgiy Yaroshenko, an aide to MP Valeriy Ishchenko, which Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko took personally overseeing and which UDAR leader Vitali Klitschko promised would be dealt with harshly, has been completely mothballed by the Prosecutor General's Office. The case cannot be dismissed—the evidence collected in the case is too compelling—but it is not being brought to trial.

2. As a reminder, the case gained traction because Georgiy Yaroshenko gathered businessmen and blackmailed them with the help of... SBU officers! However, instead of paying bribes, the businessmen filed complaints with the prosecutor's office. Yaroshenko was subsequently questioned and then disappeared, making no comment. Ishchenko made one brief comment—that he was prepared to resign his mandate and comply with the party's decision. Vitali Klitschko said the party would take action based on the case's findings. SBU Chairman Nalyvaichenko stated that the investigation was a matter of honor for the SBU. And President Poroshenko ordered the investigation to be completed within 24 hours and the results reported.

3. The case contains a very solid evidence base—intercepted telephone conversations (Yaroshenko was under investigation by the SBU), testimony from business victims and government officials. The SBU had previously opened a case against Yaroshenko and Ishchenko for oil product smuggling.

4. During the investigation, the facts of the extortion were fully confirmed. Several SBU officers were fired for their involvement in this scam—but not all. And Ishchenko is still a member of parliament.

5. The reason Yaroshenko's case is not being pursued is an attempt to close it by Vitali Klitschko's closest friend, MP Artur Palatny, the UDAR power broker, through whom all appointments to government positions under the Klitschko quota are made, and through whom some MPs are promoted to single-member constituencies.

"6. Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema bears responsibility for this criminal case, which is shameful for both the state and Vitali Klitschko, and for attempting to conceal the criminals Yaroshenko and Ishchenko, who should be stripped of their parliamentary mandate and brought to trial. Mr. Yarema, alas, has demonstrated neither integrity nor honesty in this case," Butusov wrote.
