Medieval alchemists struggled for centuries to turn lead into gold, without success. But only their follower, Valeria Gontareva, who also happens to be the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, was able to achieve their cherished goal. She is the most swindling NBU governor, as even Arbuzov and Vitya (Golden Loaf) lacked the audacity to replace the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves with another metal. The solution came after yet another daily experiment with drinking firewater.

Our source in the relevant authorities has learned of the NBU's heavy pressure on the investigation of criminal case No. 12014160500010301, dated November 19, 2014. During an audit of the NBU's Odesa Oblast office, an auditor untainted by criminal activity uncovered the substitution of 11 kg of 999-purity gold for another metal. The fake gold was sealed in packages and prepared for shipment to the NBU's Kyiv Central Vault. The total damage amounted to UAH 5425857,04.
The auditor forced the regional administration's leadership to notify law enforcement and the head of the NBU of the incident. NBU Order No. 181-op of November 21, 2014, ordered an internal investigation, the purpose of which, according to a source in the agencies responsible for combating corruption at the highest levels of government, is to conceal the underlying schemes of gold and foreign exchange theft. As of November 1 of this year, 0,84 million ounces of gold remained in NBU vaults, which is 0,46 million ounces, or 14 tons, less than a year ago. The total amount of gold and foreign exchange reserves, due to gold, decreased by UAH 580 million.
Everyone was stunned. On the Shuster Life talk show, Andrei Illarionov, a former adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin and a prominent economist who disagrees with his current course, made a caustic dig at V.
