By order of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn, Volodymyr Gladun has been appointed head of the Poltava Department of Geophysical Works.
Gladun had previously managed the company, but was dismissed in 2014 shortly after the events on the Maidan. It turns out that in 2012, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada as a member of the Party of Regions and also served as a member of the Kyiv District Council in Poltava as a member of the Party of Regions.
Furthermore, Gladun is currently under suspicion of embezzlement of public funds on an especially large scale. The case concerns multimillion-dollar contracts he signed while head of a company. The contractor was his adopted daughter Oksana Shpak's company, Poltava Geophysical Works.
It's worth noting that information about this surfaced in January, when searches were conducted in connection with the case, and investigators gained access to the bank accounts and documents of a company belonging to Gladun's relatives. It's also interesting that his brother, Vasyl Gladun, a former aide to Serhiy, a member of parliament from the Party of Regions, is also implicated in the case. He is suspected of embezzling state property from Naftogaz, where Vasyl Gladun held a senior position.
Previously, the Poltava Geophysical Works Department was headed by Maidan activist Vladislav Levinsky, known for providing food to Maidan participants.
Minister Demchyshyn and Volodymyr Gladun declined to comment on the situation.
