Gas trader Dmitry Firtash's RGC Trading LLC filed a lawsuit in the Odesa Regional Commercial Court demanding the recovery of UAH 1,39 billion owed by the Odesa Port Plant (OPP), Kapital reports.

According to Artem Kompan, director of RGC Trading, the company supplied gas to the Odesa Petroleum Plant in the first half of 2014.

"While the company paid for gas in the first quarter, Odesa Port Plant failed to pay us for deliveries from April to June. Today, the debt amounts to UAH 1,237 billion plus penalties," said Kopman, adding that this refers to 217 million cubic meters of gas unpaid to Odesa Port Plant.

The director of the supplier company noted that OPZ, having failed to pay RGK Trading, switched to another supplier, signing a contract with the German E.On in the summer of 2014.

According to the publication, the management of the OPZ does not deny the debt.

"The plant is currently unable to pay it off immediately. We hope to obtain a payment deferment during the legal proceedings," a source at the plant said.

In turn, former head of the State Property Fund, Oleksandr Bondar, believes Firtash had long been preparing to purchase the Odesa Port Plant, and since his entities had long supplied the plant with gas, this lawsuit may not be the only one that effectively blocks the sale of the facility. Furthermore, Bondar claims, the plant could be transferred to Firtash's entities during the bankruptcy proceedings.
