Ukrainians can now learn who is really protecting the corrupt management of a number of state-owned companies. This statement was made by Member of Parliament Yegor Sobolev.
He stated that the competitive selection of Ukrspirt's director has still not been successful. Specifically, those who won the competition were branded criminals, which was not confirmed. However, these individuals had already been discredited. Therefore, the company is still led by acting director Roman Ivanyuk.
Sobolev also stated that the Verkhovna Rada's Anti-Corruption Committee is monitoring the situation and compiling a list of important criminal cases related to corruption in the security services and law enforcement agencies. Currently, there are approximately 200 such cases, all of which are in the pre-trial investigation stage. From this, the MP concluded that the cases are simply being stalled, and nothing is being done to punish the perpetrators. Sobolev sees the solution to this situation in the appointment of new heads of the Prosecutor General's Office.
As a reminder, the current head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Zavgorodniy, entered into contracts with companies run by his relatives. He did this during his tenure as chief engineer of the Prydniprovska Railway. It's also worth noting that Zavgorodniy's appointment to Ukrzaliznytsia hasn't been smooth sailing either. There are reports that he is a protégé of Infrastructure Minister Andriy Pyvovarskyi.
