According to the SBU press service, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine have uncovered instances of embezzlement and laundering of public funds totaling 47 million hryvnias by the former management of NNEGC Energoatom.
It was reported that in 2013, the perpetrators entered into a contract to supply cable products for Ukrainian nuclear power plants. It was established that the cost of the goods purchased from a commercial firm significantly exceeded the average market price. It was also noted that the characteristics of the products "indicate their possible counterfeit origin."
The supply of these products was carried out as part of the implementation of the state strategy to improve the safety of existing power units at nuclear power plants.
In connection with this, SBU investigators opened a criminal case for the legalization (laundering) of illegally obtained funds on an especially large scale. The investigation is ongoing.
As a reminder, searches were conducted at state-owned fuel and energy companies NNEGC Energoatom and Centrenergo on December 4 at approximately 9:00 a.m. According to NNEGC Energoatom's press service, the searches took place at the company's directorate, as well as at its separate divisions Atomremontservis, Atomkomplekt, and the Scientific and Technical Center.
