RBC-Ukraine, citing the lawyer for the former head of Ukrinterenergo, reports that Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has denied the defense's motion to change the pretrial detention measure for former Ukrinterenergo director Volodymyr Zinevich.

Let us recall that on December 16, 2014, the Kyiv Court of Appeal partially upheld the appeal of Zinevich’s defense and changed his preventive measure from detention to house arrest from 21:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

In early December 2014, Ukrinterenergo Director Volodymyr Zinevich was arrested in connection with coal purchases from South Africa. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Zinevich entered into a contract for the supply of South African coal, knowing it was unsuitable for Ukrainian thermal power plants. The first 84,2 tons of coal from South Africa arrived in Ukraine on October 23. The second ship, carrying 79 tons of coal from South Africa, arrived in Ukraine on October 30. On November 9, 2014, a third ship arrived from South Africa, carrying approximately 85 tons of anthracite coal. However, on November 11, Steel Mont refused to sign a new coal supply agreement with Ukrinterenergo.

Volodymyr Zinevich is charged under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for embezzlement of state-owned enterprise funds on an especially large scale. The official faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
