Pavel Vovk
Pavlo Vovk was re-elected as head of the Kyiv District Administrative Court. During the secret ballot, 45 of the 46 judges present cast their votes for Vovk.
As is known, on March 28 of this year, amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Judicial System and the Status of Judges" came into force, establishing a new procedure for the election and dismissal of judges to administrative positions. According to the amendments, the chairperson of a local court is elected for a two-year term, but no longer than the judge's current term, by secret ballot by a majority of the judges serving in the relevant court.
As a reminder, a search was conducted at the Kyiv District Administrative Court on February 16, 2015. Law enforcement officials cited the discovery of judges making decisions while they were absent from Ukraine as the reason for the search.
It was previously reported that before becoming a judge, Pavlo Vovk was an assistant consultant to the people's deputy and chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Justice, Sergei Kivalov.
It's worth noting that Mr. Vovk was first appointed to the judicial position on March 12, 2007, for a five-year term. On April 16, 2009, Pavlo Vovk was appointed a member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine under the Verkhovna Rada's quota. Since 2010, he has headed the Kyiv District Administrative Court. His former boss, Serhiy Kivalov, likely assisted Pavlo Vovk's rapid career advancement.
