The Prosecutor General's Office suspects former Justice Minister Olena Lukash of embezzling and misappropriating 2,5 million hryvnias in public funds. However, media reports have emerged that while serving as minister, Olena Lukash "stole" much larger sums.
A journalistic investigation on the program "Nashi Groshi" revealed that Olena Lukash, while serving in the civil service for seven years, managed to "save" tens of millions of dollars. The former minister and her mother are known to own at least five luxury properties in the center of the capital. Her mother owns a 0,07-hectare plot of land and a nearly 800-square-meter house in Tsarskoye Selo, located in Kyiv's Pechersk Hills. This property was purchased in June 2013. The price of similar properties in this area of the capital starts at 50 million hryvnias. Neighbors report that the former minister and her family live on this estate.
In addition, it is known that in December 2011, another apartment in Kyiv near the Botanical Garden at 23 Vetrova Street was registered in Lukash's mother's name. The area of the apartment is 86 square meters.
Elena Lukash herself owns three more apartments, measuring 111, 127, and 125 square meters. This apartment is located in a new, modern residential building in Podil, at 7/9 Yaroslavsky Lane. Lukash drives a 2009 Lexus RX 350, accompanied by a security guard and driver.
It is known that before Lukash became the Minister of Justice in the Azarov Cabinet, she held government positions. Her husband, Grigoriy Ilyashov, was also a civil servant. The former minister's declared income in 2011 and 2012 was just over 200 hryvnias.
As journalists noted, the embezzlement case of 2,5 million hryvnias, which the Prosecutor General's Office accuses Lukash of, will likely fall apart. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General's Office is in no hurry to investigate other corruption schemes involving the former Minister of Justice.
РEarlier we reported that Elena Lukash was detained by SBU officers.
