According to the investigation, the deputy systematically disseminated information through social media that aligned with Russian propaganda narratives. This information was aimed at discrediting government agencies, international partners, and European integration processes. These actions contributed to the destabilization of the situation within the country.
"Furthermore, the accused, using his personal contacts with representatives of the political leadership of the Republic of Belarus, arranged for a contract for the supply of mineral fertilizers between two business entities. He then provided suppliers with false information about Belarusian Railways' alleged refusal to transport the products." - the report says.
Law enforcement officials say Shevchenko created an artificial obstacle to fulfilling the terms of the contract and offered to "resolve the issue" by forcing his son to sign a contract for the provision of legal services with a private entrepreneur.
"Between December 2021 and February 2022, 14,5 million hryvnias were transferred to his account for services that were not actually provided. Thus, the MP obtained funds on an especially large scale through fraud," the statement reads.
The defense has completed its review of the pre-trial investigation materials. The indictment has been approved by the prosecutor and sent to the court for consideration. The defendant faces a sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
