In central Kyiv, not far from the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers, the Graal company of former Education Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk ( read more about him in the article "Dmytro and Mikhail Tabachnyk: Brother for Brother ") is destroying an architectural landmark. MP Ihor Lutsenko wrote about this on his Facebook page and posted photos.
It is known that a company associated with Tabachnyk and his partner, former Kyiv City Council member and oligarch Oleksandr Loifenfeld, is renovating a building at 4B Grushevsky Street. As the MP noted, this building is municipal property. Therefore, Lutsenko asks Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko not to wait for an official appeal from the deputy and to personally intervene in this outrage.
The MP noted that Tabachnik-Loifenfeld's development company is attempting to remove the building from the register of architectural monuments in order to build a luxury hotel in its place.
Lutsenko is asking for immediate intervention in this matter to prevent tragic events similar to those that occurred a month earlier at 12-14 Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street, when several workers died in the rubble as a result of illegal reconstruction.
It is known that this project also includes the already demolished buildings at Khreshchatyk 5a, 5d, and 5e, which belonged to Stolichny CJSC as recently as 2004. Stolichny CJSC also owned the buildings at Parkovaya Alleya 16a, 16b, and 16v. Beginning in 2003, with the help of the notorious corporate raider Ivan Grantsev and the support of the registrar "People's Registers," Stolichny CJSC was seized, and its assets, through several resale, ended up in the hands of Graal LLC, controlled by Dmytro Tabachnyk's brother, Mykhailo, and Alexander Loifenfeld. For many years, Kyiv residents could see a fence at European Square, located at Khreshchatyk 5a, 5d, and 5e. The only thing standing in the way of the construction of a multi-story shopping center on this site was the building at Grushevsky Street 1a and 1b, which is now being deliberately demolished.
As a reminder, former Kyiv City Council member Olena Yeskina previously stated that the building reconstruction tragedy could have been avoided: the collapse of the historic building on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street in Kyiv, resulting in two deaths, was due to official indifference and inaction. She personally visited the site several times and called law enforcement to stop the illegal construction at 12-14 Khmelnytsky Street. However, law enforcement and city officials only began to address the problem of dilapidated buildings after the tragedy.
