The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has completed a pre-trial investigation into the head of a customs post and the deputy head of the customs clearance department of one of the customs posts of the Odessa Customs Office, who established a scheme to obtain illegal benefits from enterprises when importing goods by sea transport, reports press office GBR.
"State Bureau of Investigation investigators established that customs officers received between $400 and $500 per container from business representatives for the unimpeded passage of cargo and the expedited customs clearance process.
In the summer of 2020, State Bureau of Investigation investigators detained officials while receiving another illegal benefit in the amount of $2100.
They are charged under the article on accepting an offer, promise, or receiving an unlawful benefit by an official holding a position of responsibility (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the statement reads.

The article provides for a penalty in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to 3 years and confiscation of property.
