Gerasimyuk resigned but continues to work: Yarema defends his first deputy from lustration under the "Danilenko scenario" (+ video)

First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Mykola Gerasimyuk has submitted his resignation. This was announced by Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema at a briefing on December 8, according to an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.

"As for Gerasimyuk, he was deputy head of the executive service in 2013. He submitted a letter of resignation. We are currently conducting an additional investigation into his possible continued employment with the prosecutor's office," Yarema said.

Moreover, when asked by a Hromadske TV journalist why Gerasimyuk was not fired due to the implementation of the "Law on the Purification of Power," Yarema began to openly evade the answer.

"There are stages of law enforcement... 138 people were fired...," he said. At the same time, the Prosecutor General openly misinformed the media, claiming that the lustration process for those prosecutors who served from 2010 to 2013 falls under the second stage of the government cleansing. This can be verified by reviewing the full list of lustrated prosecutors from the "first wave," where the lustration rollout included those prosecutors who held leadership positions during Viktor Yanukovych's presidency.

Earlier, during the media campaign demanding the dismissal of Deputy Head of the Prosecutor General's Office Anatoliy Danilenko for alleged corruption, Yarema also defended his protégé and temporarily suspended him, shielding him from the onslaught of criticism. Following the investigation, Danilenko returned to work for the agency.
