On November 9, the TSN Tyzhden program showed an interesting video recording in which Mikhail Okhendovsky, head of the Central Election Commission, visited one of the capital's offices. Journalists from "Obozrevatel" claim the office belongs to Ihor Kolomoisky.
On the 1+1 television channel, Central Election Commission head Okhendovsky was accused of demanding a bribe for the "correct" vote count. 1+1 promised to release this scandalous video later.
According to the head of the Central Election Commission himself, he is under strong pressure from oligarch governor Igor Kolomoisky.
Kolomoisky commented on the infamous video and the ensuing scandal as follows: "Regarding Mr. Okhendovsky's insinuations that I allegedly expressed dissatisfaction with the election results in a number of problematic districts, I would like to begin by asking him: was he in one of the elite office buildings on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv late last weekend, and how often had he been there before? How did he end up there? Who did he meet there with? And for what purpose? After I receive answers to these questions, I will be prepared to comment further... For now, I will limit myself to the well-known proverb: 'The thief's cap burns.' As soon as reports appeared in the press that an investigation was underway into Mr. Okhendovsky's activities, this immediately provoked an unjustifiably violent reaction from him."
The current elections clearly haven't done Okhendovskyi's image any favors—there were problems with the vote count at many polling stations, and then there was the head of the Central Election Commission's visit to the oligarch's office and accusations of bribery.
At a minimum, Mr. Okhendovsky should provide an explanation regarding the released video recording. Ideally, the current head of the Central Election Commission should resign altogether, in order to preserve at least a modicum of trust in the body he leads.
