Alexander Ershov
Following the publication of a journalistic investigation, the head of the Ukrainian State Traffic Inspectorate, Oleksandr Yershov, resigned. Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced on his Facebook page that he had approved Yershov's resignation and ordered an internal investigation into the allegations made public by journalists regarding the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate.
On May 19, Radio Liberty journalists published their own investigation, revealing details of the luxurious lifestyle of Alexander Ershov's family.
The youngest daughter, Daria Ershova, who is 21, owns a luxury Range Rover with a sporty trim. Her Instagram page features a photo from two years ago, clearly showing the car, a gift from the family, parked in the garage where the Ershovs live.
The eldest daughter, Anastasia Ershova, owns two cars: a Lexus RX 350 and a white Porsche Cayenne. However, the traffic police register shows a completely different car with these license plates: a 2008 SsangYong registered to Latvian citizen Dmitry Makhlin.
Journalists have noted that the traffic police chief's daughters are not shy on social media. They post photos in front of luxury cars and from elite apartments at foreign resorts, where they fly business class.
Over the past six months, Anastasia Ershova has reportedly visited at least nine countries around the world: the United States (Miami), the United Arab Emirates, Monaco (Monte Carlo), Singapore, the Czech Republic, Thailand, Italy, and Mexico. Her most recent published photos show her at a party with Paris Hilton in Cannes.
Radio Liberty journalists noted that Mr. Yershov conceals his family's income. When asked, the former acting head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of Ukraine refused to provide information from his income declaration. Yershov, contrary to law, also classified the income declarations of the entire State Traffic Inspectorate leadership. Media reports indicate that in 2013, the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate earned approximately 12 hryvnias per month. Yershov owns a motorcycle, but its license plate number is listed in the State Traffic Inspectorate database as that of a KAMAZ truck. A Toyota Land Cruiser is also registered to Oleksandr Yershov. This vehicle is listed in his 2013 declaration. However, Yershov concealed from the public a plot of land and a house under construction in Kyiv.
Alexander Ershov's immediate family members drive expensive luxury cars costing around $100. It is known that Ershov's mother and brother-in-law each own a Land Cruiser SUV.
As a reminder, Oleksandr Yershov was appointed acting head of the State Traffic Inspectorate by Avakov on April 4, 2015, following the resignation of Oleksandr Sirenko. Previously, Yershov served as head of the State Traffic Inspectorate Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kharkiv Oblast.
