Oleksandr Yanukovych's All-Ukrainian Development Bank (VBR) filed a lawsuit challenging the NBU's decision to declare the bank insolvent.
Anna Gurova, head of the board of the All-Ukrainian Development Bank, announced this at a press conference.
"On November 27 of this year, based on a NBU resolution, a temporary administration was appointed at VBR. The reason for declaring the bank insolvent is unprecedented and stems from the imposition of EU sanctions against shareholder Oleksandr Yanukovych," she stated.
At the same time, according to her, at the moment there are no court decisions regarding Oleksandr Yanukovych that could affect the fate of VBR.
"The sanctions were imposed back in March 2014. Eight months of sanctions were not enough to trigger the regulator's intervention in the bank's operations. And only now, under this pretext, has the NBU declared VBR insolvent," Gurova emphasized.
The head of the board also claims that EU sanctions had no impact on the bank's solvency, and that the financial indicators at the time of the introduction of the temporary administration met all National Bank standards.
"Today's events surrounding the bank bear all the hallmarks of political persecution, or more precisely, political corporate raiding. I think someone simply became interested in this asset," Gurova stated.
She also said that she had received threats.
"I was warned that today's press conference could end badly for me," said the head of the VBR board.
She also added that the bank sent letters to the country's president, prime minister, business ombudsman of Ukraine, the IMF, and the European Central Bank asking them to pay attention to the situation.
In addition, according to Gurova, VBR filed a lawsuit to appeal the NBU's decision to declare the bank insolvent.
As a reminder, on November 27, 2014, the Board of the National Bank decided to classify Oleksandr Yanukovych's All-Ukrainian Development Bank as insolvent.
As is known, on January 27, 2011, Alexander Yanukovych became the 100% owner of the authorized capital of VBR.
This happened less than two months after Sergei Arbuzov, a close friend of Oleksandr Yanukovych, was appointed head of the National Bank.
In the four and a half years since its founding, VBR has increased its capital tenfold. In 2013, the bank doubled its capital compared to the previous year.
