Valeriy Rudyk, acting head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region, earned three times less than his family, according to his 2013 tax return.
At that time, Rudyk earned 144,8 hryvnias. In contrast, his family members, whose names were carefully omitted from the declaration, were able to contribute 493,9 hryvnias to the family coffers.
The declaration also indicates that the colonel owns a foreign car, a 150-square-meter residential building, and 1,5 hectares of land. However, the real estate registry reveals somewhat different information. It turns out that Rudyk owns a house with a total area of 152,9 square meters, which was… a gift. The property is located near Kyiv in the village of Lyutezh, on the shore of the Kyiv Reservoir. Incidentally, this is also where the famous estate of Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, is located. The value of real estate in this village reaches nine million hryvnias.
The land owned by the law enforcement officer is located in the village of Gostomel in the Kyiv region and was acquired in 2013. However, the plot measures 11,48 hectares, not 15 hectares, as stated in the declaration. It's worth noting that a hundred square meters of land in the specified area costs between two and five thousand dollars. Valeriy Rudyk also declared an apartment of 78,7 square meters.
The family also owns two foreign cars: a Toyota Camry (2008), which the policeman bought in 2012, and a Toyota Yaris (2007).
Conflicting appointment
Valeriy Rudyk took over Zhytomyr's law enforcement agency back in May of last year. The appointment was not without controversy. Activists and members of the public council at the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration expressed outrage that the nomination of the region's chief police officer had not been publicly reviewed, and the decision-making process itself was described as opaque.
A corresponding appeal demanding Rudyk's removal from office, signed by the chairman of the regional council, was sent to Arsen Avakov. The fact is that the then chief of staff Sergei Chebotar He promised that candidates for regional department heads would undergo a public vetting process. However, activists learned of the appointment of the regional Interior Ministry head only after the order was signed. Ultimately, Rudyk's candidacy was approved.
According to his official biography, Valery Rudyk's law enforcement career began in 1981. During his service, he worked in the Economic Crimes Directorate, the tax police, and headed the department for combating crimes related to the conversion of funds. He held this position from January 2008 to December 2010. His biography does not reveal his activities from December 2010 to April 2014. After a nearly four-year hiatus, Valery Rudyk was appointed deputy head of the "bread" department of the state service for combating economic crimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As a reminder, Zhytomyr police officers and the head of the village council recently extorted a bribe from the former manager of a club. The head blackmailed the pregnant woman, threatening to file a complaint alleging she had stolen radiators from the premises. He thus extorted a thousand hryvnias from her. Police Chief Valeriy Rudyk has not responded to the incident. There is still no information about an internal investigation.
Incidentally, not long ago Rudyk "distinguished himself" during an incident at the Zhitomirski Lasoshchi factory by forbidding a journalist from photographing him.
