Konotop's chief police officer, Lukyanenko, who was caught taking a bribe, has been released from custody.

courtThe Zarechny District Court in Sumy has decided to release Konotop police chief Sergei Lukyanenko from house arrest.

Prior to this, Konotop's chief police officer had been under arrest for two months. His term expired on February 2, and the court, despite the prosecutor's request, decided not to extend it.

Lukyanenko, however, cannot yet return to work, as the court extended his suspension on January 29. As it turned out, the police officer's arrest was saved by chance: the investigating judge assigned to his case fell ill, and the judge assigned to the case found no grounds for continuing his house arrest.

Serhiy Lukyanenko is suspected of various offenses, but the reason for his arrest was a bribe of 30 hryvnias. He is also accused of protecting sand mining, concealing an assault, and other charges. Furthermore, public activists accuse him of covering up an illegal gambling operation.
