Journalist Lera Burlakova wrote on Facebook that Andriy Vatoli has been appointed the new head of the State Emergency Service in Kyiv. During the Revolution of Dignity, he led the firefighters who doused activists with water in freezing temperatures.

The journalist noted that during the fighting on Hrushevsky Street, Andriy Vatoli "was the head of the water cannon." Back then, dozens of firefighters refused to douse the Maidan protesters with water in the freezing cold.

Burlakova wrote that acquaintances of Vatoli's family spoke of the new head of the State Emergency Service in Kyiv's deeply pro-Russian views.

It is also known that as of January 23, 2014, Mr. Vatoli held the position of Head of the Department of Emergency Response of the State Emergency Service.
