By decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the acting chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Zavgorodniy, was dismissed.
The reasons for Zavgorodniy's resignation have not been disclosed, but according to media reports, in late February, a group of MPs submitted a collective appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, and the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The appeal outlined the possible reasons for Zavgorodniy's resignation. The appeal itself was signed by 29 MPs.
The document details large-scale abuses by the acting head of Ukrzaliznytsia. Specifically, it details Zavgorodniy's collusion with the director of the Zaporizhzhia Electrical Installation Plant, which resulted in the Zaporizhzhia company receiving 398 million hryvnias in 2015. Ukrzaliznytsia also collaborated with Viktor Yanukovych's companies and banks. Dominanta Insurance Company paid Ukrzaliznytsia 414 million hryvnias in the last three months of last year alone, and Euroinveststroy LLC paid 14 million hryvnias in February of this year. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with these allegations.
