On the 1+1 channel, NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva stated that the NBU wants to push through the Verkhovna Rada amendments to the Civil Code of Ukraine, prohibiting the early withdrawal of term deposits.
"We're already preparing a proposal for the new Verkhovna Rada meeting to prevent term deposits from being withdrawn before a certain deadline. It turns out that any deposit is like a demand deposit," Gontareva noted.
According to the head of the NBU, depositors will be able to choose between a lower interest rate for a shorter term and a higher interest rate for a longer-term deposit.
"We want to make such changes to the Civil Code of Ukraine. Then the NBU won't have to tighten the screws," Gontareva said.
It is worth noting that the population keeps 404 billion hryvnias in banks, of which almost 208 billion are in hryvnias.
Gontareva's post has been actively discussed on social media since yesterday. It's a shame Valeria Alekseyevna herself isn't participating.
