The Prosecutor General's Office's response to a request sent to the agency by MPs Andriy Zhurzhiy and Viktoria Voitsitska indicates that the pre-trial investigation into the case of failure to perform official duties, in which the main defendant is named as the Chairman of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov (Read more: Roman Nasirov. The Business Past of Ukraine's Chief Tax Official), has already begun. In particular, Voitsitskaya noted:
"Following a review of my and Zhurzhiy's complaints regarding the commission of a criminal offense by the Chairman of the State Fiscal Service, the Prosecutor General's Office has opened a criminal investigation into the failure of State Fiscal Service officials to comply with the lawful demands of Ukrainian parliamentarians. The failure of the Chairman of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine to provide the requested information directly impedes the work of Ukrainian parliamentarians."
The deputies emphasize that, for eight months, they have been unable to obtain information from the State Fiscal Service on the amount of tax arrears for subsoil use rent separately for each asset developed by Ukrnafta. Notably, on April 21, 2016, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) opened criminal proceedings against State Fiscal Service officials for the official forgery of official documents, and, somewhat later, a case against Roman Nasirov for incidents related to Ukrnafta.
