The Prosecutor General's Office (GPU) has summoned Deputy Minister of Health Igor Pereginets for questioning. A letter posted on Facebook states that he is being summoned for questioning in connection with a criminal investigation into abuse of office during polio vaccination.

As Pereginets wrote, the matter concerns the procurement of OPV and IPV polio vaccines. These vaccines, as is known, were provided as humanitarian aid by Canada.

Igor Pereginets commented on the invitation to questioning on his Facebook page. He believes the Prosecutor General's Office will be questioning him on a case artificially created by those dissatisfied with the reforms at the Ministry of Health. He believes healthcare needs to be removed from the realm of speculation and politics as quickly as possible.

As a reminder, in 2015, all procurement for the Ministry of Health was transferred to UNDP, UNICEF, and Crown Agents. Many former officials who had earned handsome profits from the Ministry of Health's public procurement were denied access to budget funds.
