VESTI editor-in-chief Igor Guzhva gave a comment to Radio Vesti after being released from the Pechersk District Department of Internal Affairs in Kyiv.
"The investors and I wanted to meet near the entrance to the Yalta European Strategy conference, talk to EU representatives, and tell them about the problems with Vesti newspaper. We didn't manage to do this; about five minutes later, we were attacked by masked men led by Oles Vakhniy, who had previously confessed to vandalizing our editorial office. He's still at large, and no one is planning to arrest him. Now, instead of detaining him, the police have started charging me with holding an unsanctioned rally.
Afterwards, amid a hail of stones from Vakhniy's men, I was shoved into a car and taken to the police station. They drew up an administrative report and charged me with organizing an unauthorized rally. Of course, it's ironic that such chaos is unfolding right outside the forum's doors. What struck me most was that Vakhniy, who had effectively confessed to the crime, was calmly walking among the police and causing trouble, yet I was the one arrested, not him. This shows that everything happening to the newspaper isn't a random chain of events, but a planned campaign, covered up at the very top," Guzhva noted.
According to him, the company is preparing to take specific action against the SBU. The printing house that was ransacked will do the same. "It was even more brutal there—people were beaten, and there was gunfire. What happened now—the police officers' failure to prevent Vakhniy from committing a crime and other actions—we will demand that a criminal case be opened based on these facts," the Vesti editor-in-chief emphasized.
Guzhva also noted that the police at the police station itself behaved fairly adequately; in private conversations, officers expressed support for the newspaper and dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in the country.
We remind you that today, September 13, Igor Guzhva was detained by SBU officers during a picket in support of the VESTI newspaper. VESTI editor-in-chief Igor Guzhva has been detained..
Igor Guzhva himself claimed that the reason for such close attention from law enforcement agencies was the publication of an article about the daughter of the head of the SBU, Olga Nalyvaichenko, living in Manhattan. Guzhva spoke about the reasons for the search of the VESTI editorial office. + VIDEO
