According to an extract from the Unified State Register, on October 31, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (GPU) launched a pre-trial investigation into the illegal enrichment of former First Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ihor Kaletnik.
This fact came to light after the former communist personally deposited 70 million hryvnias into his account at Raiffeisen Bank Aval and transferred the money to his daughter's foreign bank account. Igor Kaletnik stated in his declaration that he received gifts worth almost 70 million hryvnias in 2013. He transferred almost the same amount to his daughter's foreign bank account. If proven, Igor Kaletnik faces 5 to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

In response to a request from the Anti-Corruption Action Center, Senior Prosecutor Yakov Korol of the Main Investigative Department stated: "The Department for Investigating Particularly Important Cases has launched a pre-trial investigation into Kaletnik's illegal enrichment, that is, the official's receipt of an illegal benefit and the transfer of such benefit to close relatives on a large scale."

We would like to remind you that the Prosecutor General's Office is investigating another criminal case against Igor Kaletnik for the falsification of the vote count during the adoption of the so-called "dictatorial laws of January 16."
Igor Kaletnik is a former head of Ukrainian customs, a judge, and the first vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.

"He transferred almost the same amount to his daughter's foreign bank account." Investigators supposedly figured it out, like, the amount is almost the same, so we'll open a case... But for what?? The thing is, there's already an explanation for where the money came from (the sale of the apartment), but who cares anymore? The main thing is to make a public statement (to cover up real problems with virtual cases to cover up any publicity).
