Former People's Deputy from the Party of Regions, Yuriy Ivanyushchenko (aka Yura Yenakievsky), is no longer a defendant in the criminal case.
On January 27, the Solomyansky District Court of Kyiv upheld Ivanyushchenko's lawyer's complaint, and the case, filed on February 21, 2015, was dismissed. It alleged illegal enrichment of 72 million Swiss francs and the embezzlement of 170 million hryvnias in public funds. These funds were obtained from the sale of greenhouse gas emission quotas to Japan.
During all this time, Ivanyushchenko's guilt has never been proven. The prosecutor's office has already appealed the court's decision. Furthermore, according to Prosecutor General Vladislav Kutsenko, Ivanyushchenko remains on the international wanted list.
It's important to note that Ivanyushchenko and Serhiy Arbuzov's accounts were previously frozen, but their appeal is only a matter of time, according to Serhiy Gorbatyuk, head of the Prosecutor General's Office's special investigations department. He also stated that there's a high chance that EU sanctions against Ivanyushchenko will be lifted, as the indictment against him has yet to be filed. Gorbatyuk also predicted that the same will happen to Kurchenko, Arbuzov, and others.
