They came to Akhmetov. The oligarch is losing his property in Crimea.

Following the fascist oligarch Kolomoisky, whose property was nationalized in Crimea, dispossession also affected Ukraine's richest man, Rinat Akhmetov.

The Sevastopol government has begun an inventory of the assets of the former "master of Donbas." City authorities have adopted a resolution to inventory the assets of PJSC Ukrtelecom, which he owned, and to conduct a comprehensive review of the legality of the privatization of its assets, which previously belonged to Ukraine.

"Based on the results of the inventory, the relevant property will be included in the Sevastopol city property register," the statement reads.

Furthermore, the director of the Ukrtelecom branch must be suspended from his position during the audit. While the investigation is underway, the Sevastopol Department of Information Technology and Communications must ensure uninterrupted operations in the telecommunications sector.

According to Vadim Dvoryanenko, Head of the Government's Department of Communications and Information Technology, Law No. 3-ZS "On the Former State Property of Ukraine and the Determination of the Procedure for the Inventory, Management, and Disposal of the Property of the City of Sevastopol" was adopted on April 24, 2014, and on March 17, Resolution No. 7156 of the Sevastopol City Council "On the Status of the Hero City of Sevastopol" was adopted, according to which all institutions, enterprises, and other organizations established by Ukraine or with its participation become enterprises established by Sevastopol.

"Therefore, if the audit reveals that privatization was carried out with violations, or that Ukrtelecom does not have ownership rights to certain facilities used by the operator, I emphasize—only in this case—in accordance with paragraph 3 of today's resolution, these facilities will be included in the city's property register," noted Vadim Dvoryanenko.

There's no doubt that irregularities in the Ukrtelecom acquisition will be uncovered very quickly. Firstly, there's never been a fair privatization in Ukraine; whoever came to power plundered the country. Secondly, after the coup, Akhmetov adopted a halfhearted stance and attempted to negotiate with the junta, handing it over city after city in the Donbas. Not once did the oligarch speak out in defense of the eastern regions; all his statements boiled down to the idea that Donetsk and Luhansk should be part of a united and indivisible Ukraine.

But the more Akhmetov double-dealed, the smaller his empire became: eventually, it shrank to the size of Mariupol. After the owner of SCM witnessed the junta's capitulation and the signing of the Minsk agreements, he began buying Russian coal and transporting humanitarian convoys to Luhansk, hoping to "appease" both eastern Ukraine and Russia.

But despite this, Akhmetov's assets are dwindling before our eyes—Kolomoisky has already seized some of his businesses, and the new government has seized others (regional power companies). And now, it seems, the Shakhtar president won't even have anywhere to call a friend: Ukrtelecom is being nationalized.
