The Odessa Port Plant may not have received a 5 billion hryvnia loan from Oschadbank. Investigators have determined this, as Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine for the region David Sakvarelidze reported on Facebook.
According to him, in compliance with the Cabinet of Ministers' order of December 3, 2014, Odesa Port Plant was essentially obligated to take out this loan and then pay interest on it. This loan was taken out to purchase gas from Naftogaz Ukrainy, and the state-owned company used the funds to pay for imports from Russia.
However, company officials are confident that the loan was not necessary, as the company had sufficient funds at the time. As Sakvarelidze stated, this forced Odesa Port Plant to pay an additional 700 million hryvnia in interest.
In addition, in May of this year, people who had no previous connection to OPP joined the company’s management team.
The Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office has already summoned People's Front MP Mykola Martynenko and regional governor Mikheil Saakashvili for questioning regarding losses amounting to 4 billion hryvnias.
