The journey from Maidan hero to button-pushing deputy and parliamentary fixer took just two years.
A scandal has erupted between volunteers working on reforming the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's procurement sector and several "patriotic" parliamentarians. The volunteers, who created a fundamentally new system for procuring clothing supplies for the Ministry of Defense and provided the army with modern uniforms, are outraged by the parliamentarians' "business" literally using the blood of dead and wounded soldiers.
In short, the scandal is as follows: MP Ivan Vynnyk (BPP) and MP Tetyana Chornovol (People's Front) are trying to force the army to purchase 20 sets of field uniforms for service members. The uniforms are rubbish, even lethally rubbish, because they burn, even though they shouldn't. This doesn't stop the "patriotic" MPs, who, in cahoots with Serhiy Pashinsky, an embezzler and fraudster implicated in a number of criminal cases dating back to the Kuchma era (read more: Serhiy Pashinsky: Thief, Raider, Fraudster, and MP ), are attempting to lobby for someone else's business interests. An interest that will result in the deaths of hundreds of soldiers on the front lines.
What's particularly vile in this story is the involvement of the "fiery revolutionary" Tatyana Chornovol in yet another scam by the embezzler and corporate raider Pashinsky. The journey from a prominent activist of the Revolution of Dignity and hero of the Maidan to a crooked "button pusher," a parliamentary fixer, and a "gofer" for the professional swindler Pashinsky took just two years.
Looking at this, you begin to believe that the Verkhovna Rada really does have a bad aura.
To profit from blood, from the death of brothers-in-arms of yesterday - you have to be a complete failure.

For those who have absolutely no idea what's going on with Chornovol and Vynnyk, I'll give you a quick rundown. Under guarantees from MPs with ties to the Ministry of Defense, 20 sets of summer uniforms were produced for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They were produced and delivered to the warehouse. They quoted a price that was way below what was possible. But they refused to do fabric inspections or documentation. The fabric is plastic. Pure. Like an old viscose vest, only thinner. And some of it, that's what it is, the infamous 2701.
Only sewn according to new patterns. It will flare up instantly. This is the first, trial run. Then they want to dress the entire army in these. The deputy guaranteed that everything would pass military inspection. But it turned out that these plastic products couldn't get past Marchenko (Marchel from the 79th, in case anyone has forgotten). And then the holy war began. And then they started to destroy Marcela and his entire team. For not taking bribes. For knowing firsthand what a plastic uniform is. And I remember. When they were evacuating the paratroopers from the 79th, wounded in the Donetsk airport, to the Dnieper. And I remember how they tore off pieces of the uniform with the flesh still on. Literally. Not with the skin, but with the caked flesh still on.
If anything is going to destroy Ukraine, it will be the pathogenic zone called the Verkhovna Rada.
You know, it’s always been a mystery to me how a modest journalist, albeit quite impulsive, in the space of two years becomes a lobbyist for the system he made a name for himself fighting against and begins to have some kind of “own interest in business.”

It happened last year, and it's happening this year: billions of hryvnias spent on clothing supplies are haunting these two deputies. And the worst part is that Ministry of Defense employees are obligated to devote time to these... elected officials, to answer their letters, and to respond to their inquiries.
Vinnik asked about camouflage, even though he doesn't understand a damn thing about it—someone in the Ministry of Defense has to answer. And it doesn't matter that once Vinnik gets the answer, he'll lie again and again. Sports... It's the same with combat boots. So they came to us, and we wasted our time on them. Some gangsters sat there with their glued-and-stitched combat boots, whining and whining. They were told: bring a batch, there are technical specifications on the Ministry of Defense website, we'll use them for trial wear, they'll be better—no problem, we'll buy them. How many companies brought their combat boots for trial wear? Huh? How many? The correct answer is ONE company. Which one? Really a basement cooperative? No. Again: Talent, a new version. Hello? Suppliers? Where are you? No answer, only the yapping of elected officials...
You know why? Because neither Konstantin Lesnik, nor Yuriy Husyev, nor Dmitry Marchenko took bribes. Oops... And when there's no way to "reach an agreement," there's no point in bringing crap for a trial run—it won't work. You can keep spreading the treason on Facebook, wisecracking about the percentage of new combat boots in photos.
Our "favorites" had found another mechanism, or so they thought. Winning easily with ridiculously low prices on Prozorro, they were hoping to shove crap into the army through an "agreement" at the military acceptance stage. If not directly, then smack it in the face. But here too, a bummer: the Development and Support Center has functionality for random quality control of products in warehouses. And here we come to the latest...
The warehouse received about 20,000 sets of uniforms from a number of suppliers. Somehow, they won the bidding by setting a price BELOW the estimated cost. And everything would have been fine (for them), but Dima doesn't take bribes. And Poltorak (read more about him in Stepan Poltorak: The New Kuchma Needs a New Kuzmuk ) doesn't take bribes either. And the people's deputies' briefings and grandiose rhetoric won't help—Tymofiyovych, without hesitation, signed an order to conduct an audit and, most importantly, to suspend payments on these 20,000 sets of uniforms.
What's at stake is a mere pittance for the elected representatives: 12 million hryvnias. But for us, it's a matter of principle.

I'm going to tell you now how the Military Medical Department of the Ministry of Defense, under the leadership of General Verba, is killing our soldiers. Literally leaving them no chance of survival. I'm tired of the equivocations, the slips of the tongue, the omissions, so I'm going to call a spade a spade.
Last fall, the Ministry of Defense purchased 30 hemostatic tourniquets from AV Pharma. A tourniquet is the MOST important item in a soldier's first aid kit. When a limb is injured, it's the only hope of not dying from blood loss. Celox, and everything else, is just luck—if you're lucky enough to apply the tourniquet correctly.
During tests in October and November, volunteers discovered that these tourniquets tear and break when they're used. On average, 60% of them do. You see, more than half of the new tourniquets are worthless crap. More than half of the injured people who try to use these tourniquets are doomed to die.
Volunteers go to the VMD. Verba sends them away with a curse. The useless turnstiles remain in the army.
In April 2016, the Ministry of Defense announced a new tender for the purchase of the same tourniquets, this time for 50 units. Volunteers banded together and went to Minister Poltorak, who promised them many good things and the abolition of all the bad ones. But despite these promises, the tender proceeded smoothly under the same technical specifications. On May 12, the envelopes from the tender participants were opened, no public comments were taken into account, and on May 17, at a working group meeting, volunteers and representatives of the reform project office were told that they had no right to develop technical specifications for a medical device. Ultimately, the same useless, tearing tourniquets would be purchased.
The reason is simple. I know people who were offered millions in kickbacks to push through these turnstiles at the Ministry of Defense. These people refused, and for security reasons I won't name them. But obviously, there were others who were willing to ignore the loss of life.
This is the height of cynicism. Only complete bastards and scoundrels could push through this purchase. This must be stopped, absolutely and immediately. Therefore, I ask you to repost. I ask you not to remain silent. I ask the journalists who read me, the publications that publish me, and anyone who can—get involved. The attempt to resolve this quietly with Minister Poltorak failed. His promise was not fulfilled. Therefore, we must bring this into the open; that's the only way to stop it. I don't care who my relationships with are damaged if this purchase ultimately results in the death of even one person. And if these "turnstiles" are purchased, thousands could die from blood loss.
