Public hearings regarding the development of the Sennoy Market (17 Bulvarno-Kudryavskaya Street) in Kyiv are not provided for by law.
KV learned of this from the response of PJSC Kyivmiskbud to an appeal by Olha Balitska, a Kyiv City Council member from the Samopomich Union.
"Holding public hearings on a construction project is not provided for by current legislation," the document states.
The developer adds that it held "several public meetings" to gather suggestions. The nature of these suggestions was not specified.
Kyivmiskbud also states that “preparatory work” is being carried out on the site at the address and “several development concepts” are being considered.
It was previously reported that more than ten residential buildings, ranging from 7 to 14 stories, are planned to be built on the site of the demolished Sennoy Market, which was located at 17 Bulvarno-Kudryavskaya Street.
KV Reference: The Sennoy Market was built in the 50s. The retail space covered 9 square meters and accommodated 1200 retailers.
The market got its name from the fact that in the 18th century, a large market was located on what is now Lvivska Square, where they sold hay and other pet food.
The popular market's demise began in 2004, when city authorities decided to conduct a structural inspection of the building and concluded that major repairs were necessary. The market closed for renovation, and after construction workers removed the roof and demolished several supporting structures, the renovation work gradually turned into demolition.
