Former Minister of Finance Yuri Kolobov He forged documents received from the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine in order to escape custody in Spain, according to the agency's press service.
The Prosecutor General's Office stated that the Ukrainian Bureau of Interpol sent a letter to the Prosecutor General's Office stating that they had received a request from Spanish law enforcement agencies for additional information about Kolobov. A copy of the letter, purportedly signed by Deputy Prosecutor General Yuriy Stolyarchuk, was attached to the request. This letter stated that Kolobov was listed in the case as a witness, not a suspect.
This letter was provided by Kolobov's defense team, but the Prosecutor General's Office denied that the document had been written. It also noted that the Spanish side had already been notified of it.
As a reminder, Kolobov is suspected of embezzlement and abuse of office. It is also noted that Kolobov attempted to get out on bail in Spain.
