Information has leaked from the corridors of power that Volodymyr Komashko, the handpicked candidate of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (Yuriy Lutsenko), will be appointed as the Chernihiv Oblast Prosecutor. However, this position will be nothing new to him: he was previously appointed to a similar position in Mykolaiv Oblast (he resigned in February 2015 at his own request). Prior to that, he served as the First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Supervision of Compliance with Laws in the Enforcement of Court Decisions in Criminal Proceedings and Other Enforcement Measures of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.

It is reported that Komashko is not the first lawyer to be removed from office by a former prosecutor (Viktor Shokin) and subsequently reinstated by Yuriy Lutsenko to a similar position in another region. For example, former Chernihiv Oblast prosecutor Dmytro Chibisov now heads the Kyiv Oblast prosecutor's office. Volodymyr Komashko's appointment is expected to be announced today.
