According to the publication Delo, citing the press service of the company Lemtrans, in 2014 the company transported 56,31 million tons of cargo, which is 16% higher than the 2013 figure.
The press release reported that freight volumes increased significantly in early 2014. However, they declined by the end of the year. For example, from September to December 2014, freight volumes decreased by 24% compared to September to December 2013. The largest decline was recorded on the Donetsk railway, which is explained by military operations in the area. In September to December, freight volumes there fell by 52% compared to the same period in 2013.
The company's primary cargo is coal. Last year, due to the shutdown or reduction of production at many mines, coal shipments fell by 9,6%. Between September and December, the decline was 44%. The volume of raw materials transported for metallurgical companies for the year totaled 12,074 million tons, ferrous metals – 4,971 million tons, fluxes – 4,989 million tons, and coke – 2,713 million tons.
Lemtrans is 100% owned by Rinat Akhmetov's SCM Group. It is Ukraine's largest private freight forwarding company, providing a full range of rail freight services.
As a reminder, Lemtrans LLC purchased 1378 new gondola cars in 2014. In 2013, it purchased half that number—645.
