Konstantin Tskhovrebashvili
Self-proclaimed lustrator Konstantin Tskhovrebashvili emerged a year ago on the wave of the Maidan movement and positions himself as an active purifier of power.
His activity is entirely understandable. Having been disparaged by the previous regime for his criminal past, Mr. Tskhovrebashvili either got carried away or forgot himself, but he nevertheless empowered himself with the powers of a lustrator.
It's a good thing he has a civic stance. But civic duty and civic stance aren't just about shouting slogans and trying to cleanse someone of their rights; they also involve integrity, honesty in the performance of one's duty, and, ultimately, professionalism. I'd like to see him begin to apply the values he proclaims to himself, since, by human standards, only crystal-clear people with an unblemished reputation can expose others. Or perhaps Mr. Tskhovrebashvili has a memory problem and has forgotten his criminal past and two convictions, one of which was in March of last year?
It should be noted that we all understand, we're all human, that sometimes people stumble and commit offenses. But if he were arrested for political reasons and so on, and he's a committed criminal and engaged in highly unsavory activities, there's no reason to believe he merely stumbled momentarily and subsequently realized his mistakes. Disregard for state law and human filth run like a red thread through his entire life. Back in 1993, he committed car theft, and with aggravating circumstances, at that. And just a year before the tragic events on the Maidan and his joining the ranks of the "people's fighters," Mr. Tskhovrebashvili used forged documents to attempt to "overthrow" the president of the Odessa Regional Judo Federation. And what kind of person is he who can be so cynical about the future of his beloved sport? One can only guess... although no, it's more about money than sport. And what do we see now?
The grammatically flawed essays he sends up and down the aisle are only a distraction for the new, fledgling government, which already has enough problems. And out of respect for the title of "lustrator," which he proudly calls himself, he wouldn't hurt to learn some grammar first.
And it's probably a great honor for Mr. Tskhovrebashvili to write about him. What's outrageous is that it's people like him who undermine faith in the bright future Ukrainians so eagerly await. And it makes you wonder if the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred and all those who fought against the Yanukovych regime didn't pass away so that a repeat offender and fraudster could use their bones for self-promotion.
