The director of the National Energy Company Ukrenergo, Konstantin Ushchapovsky, was dismissed from his position today by the leadership of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry.
Ushapovsky himself confirmed this fact to Interfax Ukraine. He did not specify the reasons for his dismissal. However, as Valentin Zemlyansky, Director of Energy Programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, reported in comments to Korrespondent.net, it's possible that Ushapovsky's dismissal could be related to the power outages in Crimea. "They didn't communicate the outage schedules to licensees in a timely manner," the expert explained.
If the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry explains its decision by citing power outages in mainland Ukraine, this would mean shifting responsibility from the ministry to the company, Zemlyansky believes.
As a reminder, on Wednesday, December 24, at around 10:00 a.m. Kyiv time, Crimean authorities announced that Ukraine had cut off electricity supplies to the peninsula. The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry explained that the peninsula had exceeded its consumption limit.
As a reminder, Ukrenergo manages the Ukrainian energy system and transmits electricity from power plants to the grids of energy supply companies.
